Vamparody of dorkness

Anyone who enjoyed the tale of teenager Nigel Mullett, wimpiest and least scary vampire in history (or at least, in Stockfield) in Tim Collins' "Notes from a Totally Lame Vampire: Because the Undead Have Feelings Too!", will undoubtedly welcome the appearance of this sequel, "Prince of Dorkness: More Notes from a Totally Lame Vampire". Unlike many a sequel, this one is actually better than its predecessor, with funnier episodes and wittier writing, whilst having an absolute whale of a time poking fun a The Twilight Saga. Nigel's tale seems to give every impression of having run its course with this second book but fans of the genre need not despair, as more of the same is now available in in Tim Collins' latest effort, "Adventures of a Wimpy Werewolf: Hairy But Not Scary". Oh well...

Awesome book

This book is hilarious and really cool! Nigel is struggling with the decision of turning Chloe into another vampire. But when she becomes obsessed they decide to call it quits. They are brought together again when something truly surprising happens. I love this book and I'm sure any one who loves Tim Collins will too.

About the Author

Gregory Andrews received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Stanford University in 1969 and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington in 1974. From 1974-79 he was an Assistant Professor at Cornell University. Since 1979 he has been at The University of Arizona, where he is currently Professor of Computer Science. From 1986-93 he chaired the department; in 1986 he received a distinguished teaching award.

Greg has been on the editorial board of Information Processing Letters since 1979. He was the general chair of the Twelfth ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles in 1989 and has been on the program committees of numerous conferences. From 1988-92 he was on advisory committees for the computing directorate of the National Science Foundation. Since 1991 he has been on the Board of Directors of the Computing Research Association (CRA).

Greg's research interests include all aspects of concurrent programming. A long-term project has been the design and implementation of the SR programming language. Current work focuses on the development of Filaments, a software package that provides efficient fine-grain parallelism on a variety of parallel machines.

It's a bit heavy stuff but well organized text book

It is a good book for anyone who wants to lecture in concurrent programming.This book will also help anyone explain the confusion among concurrent, parallel and distributed programs which have been around for the last three decades. The author touches the same three underlying concepts : processes, communication and synchronization. The ten chapters of the book is organized into four parts : basic concepts, shared variables, message passing and pratice. The first part, basic concepts, provides a formal presentation to introduce an assertional proof techniques for sequential and concurrent programming. The second and third parts, shared variables and message passing, elaborates the two major categories of synchronization technique in concurrent programming. Systematic method to solve synchronization problems are described throughout the chapters in two. In the last part, practice, the author provides an overview of five concurrent languanges : Turing Plus, Occam, Ada, SR and Linda. Comparison and performance experiments of all languanges are also provided in the last chapter. The book also includes some classic concurrent programming problems such as critical sections, producers and consumers, readers and writers, the dining philosophers and resource allocation. The 'Historical Notes and References' provided at the end of every chapter is a plus in which it provides citations to relevant literature and more insights to the related subject.

I hate cliffhangers! :-(

I read the book in one sitting because I could not put it down. It's a very captivating story. I would have rated this a five star book had there been just a bit more detail and description. There are parts of the story that skip over the details. I don't just want to be told something, I want it described to me in detail. A lot of erotic/dark romance stories rush through the story. If they would just add more to the story, it would bring the reader in and make them feel like they are a part of the story as an invisible intruder. With all of this being said, I'm going to be waiting impatiently for the next book to be released. DANGER ALERT.

good for beginners, but too wordy for experienced investors

If you are just starting to get into investing, or perhaps you have come upon a large sum of money through inheritance, work or the lottery and you need to learn some basics, then this book is for you. For others, including myself, who already understand the differences between property and stocks, there are better books on investing.

Property vs Shares was written by an Australian and so at times, it reads very Aussie-centric, great if you're in Australia, but some info may not be relevant if you are in a different country. The title was compelling, but I found the actual read overly academic/simplistic, not so practical and plain inaccurate in some cases. The first several chapters discusses the 4 asset classes: cash, fixed income, real estate and stocks, and explains the differences. And the basic conclusion is that there's these two assets, real estate and stocks, that vary according to risk and return. I was just frustrated how long it took to get to this basic information and never really went into strategies (even though the title is "discover your knockout investment strategies".

But the share section completely ignores value investment theory, and takes an inaccurate approach to risk analysis, hardly a fair comparison.

A ghostly mystery written with a light touch of humor and compassion. It was entertaining. I enjoyed all the various ghosts and their different personalities, both good and bad. And endearing. I love Lucy the skunk. And the growing relationship between Verity and Ellis.

Verity Long sees ghosts. Mostly with the help of long dead gangster Frank. Mysteries seem to surround Verity and the town of Sugarland. Watch out citizens: Verity is working to uncover the truth.

“True," Melody said, "but we're going to be here all night. In fact, that's why I called. I was hoping you could help me out tomorrow. I'm not going to have time to set up tables or direct the caterers. Can you meet me at six and handle those details while I finish going through the artifacts?"
"Six in the morning?" I asked.
"Lots of people get up earlier than that," she said, drily.
Yes, but I wasn't usually one of them. "Of course," I said. How hard could it be?

The Skeleton in the Closet is ghostly fun

The Skeleton in the Closet is a paranormal cozy that provides laughs as well as an intriguing mystery.

Preparations for the annual Cannonball in the Wall festival are in full swing, and it promises to be bigger than ever. Virginia Wydell family is paying for a documentary to be made about the town's heroic past. The Wydells and the Jacksons are trying to outdo each other, providing antiques and articles for an exhibition about the town's past. Verity's sister Melody is one of the volunteers helping with the exhibit.

The morning the festival is about to start, Verity and Melody discover the library door open and the head volunteer dead, a bayonet in her back. Late the night before, Darla discovered papers that would drastically affect the town, but ghostly evidence is not enough. Along with Frankie her ghostly sidekick and the charming and handsome Deputy Sheriff Ellis Wydell, Verity must find evidence to stop a determined killer.

The Skeleton in the Closet is a highly original paranormal whodunnit that makes for a fun read.

Rattling more than some old bones!

Okay. Let’s start with the clever title of this book. Just when the reader thinks they get it, surprise!! Which is the point of a really good mystery, right?

What do I like best about Ms. Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter series? I love her -Not your Momma’s ghosts: Snarky Frankie, Scare your pants off and kill you if she can, Ma, confused Matthew, and sweet Josephine. I want my own pet skunk like Lucy (Don’t tell my cat!). And then there’s hunky Ellis. Come on, Verity!!! Accept it. You LUV him!!!

Verity keeps swearing she’s not a Ghost Hunter! As Frankie, her resident ghost says, she isn’t making any money at ghost hunting and they NEEED money. But when a woman is murdered in the town library, Verity has to find the true murderer to clear her sister.

Who wouldn’t face a maniacal poltergeist to find the truth and save her sister! And work alongside Ellis!!! YUM!

Hey, Frankie. I’d take the same pay Verity gets, kisses from hunky Ellis!!!

My least favorite of the three storylines, the mystery is still engaging and fast paced, but I found the ending was anti-climactic and a bit disappointing. Charlie is again hosting an hour show, this time it is for Father’s Day. As these stories tend to work with a theme, today we are dealing with the father-son relationship.

Charlie’s own relationship with his father is fractured, and his own personal insights into the topic are slowly coming forward, until he gets an email with a specific plan: the author is planning to kill his family, and Charlie and Nova need to do what they can to get help and stop the event.

Daniel Mat� again manages to infuse the tension and emotion that highlight the host’s thoughts as he works to relate to the troubled listeners. As always, he makes some good and some not so great decisions on his way to sorting out the problem: but the intentions from Charlie are always to help. This does go a long way to not finding him removed and difficult, as he so often claims to be.

With a race to the solution and resolution, this story proceeds quickly with little to no respite in the action- readers have to read / listen on – because you are invested. Perhaps in the actual storyline, or just in Charlie – but the desire to know what happens next is there. While it wasn’t my favorite that was simply the topic: I was as determined to know if the murders were stopped before they could happen.

The Shadow Killer - Gail Bowen is a Solid Short Story Writer!

I must say that this was probably my least favorite of all of the Charlie D short stories, but even though it was my least favorite, it still didn't make me dislike it. I think that each story has helped develop Charlie's character.

Gail Bowen seems to have a knack for writing short stories! I have said it before and I will probably say it at least one more time, but she has mastered the length of story for a short story! Too often, short stories are either way too short and don't divulge enough, or they are way too long and divulge way too much, but she seems to have the perfect recipe!

I was able to quickly listen to this and move on to finish the series with the easy listening from the narrator, Daniel Mat�! His voice has left a lasting impression on me and even though I read these a couple months ago, I can still hear his voice ringing through, clear as day!!

Overall, it was a quick easy read and I didn't mind finishing at all!
