About the Author
Arnold F. Moene studied at Wageningen University where he obtained MSc degrees in International Land and Water Management as well as Soil, Water and Atmosphere. Then he went to the Fluid Dynamics Group at Eindhoven University of Technology to obtain his PhD. Currently he works as an assistant professor in the Meteorology and Air Quality Group of Wageningen University. The overarching theme of his research is atmospheric turbulence in relation to the Earth's surface. This encompasses measurement techniques like scintillometry. Furthermore, he works on turbulence in the stable boundary-layer (collapse of turbulence) and in the convective boundary layer (impact of surface heterogeneity and entrainment on scalar transport). Finally, he is interested in the practical applications of turbulent transport like the estimation of the surface evapotranspiration from remote sensing data and land-surface models. Arnold F. Moene teaches a number of BSc and MSc courses related to atmosphere-vegetation-soil interactions (theory and observations) and fluid mechanics. Furthermore he chairs the programme committee of the BSc Soil Water and Atmosphere and the MSc Earth and Environment. Since 2010 he has been a member of the editorial board of Boundary-Layer Meteorology. He has (co-)authored over 35 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Jos C. van Dam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences of Wageningen University, The Netherlands. He is responsible for research and education in the transport of water, solutes, heat and gases in topsoils at the undergraduate and graduate level. A main focus of his work is physical transport processes and their interaction with vegetation development and micro-meteorology. Dr van Dam is one of the main developers of the widely-used ecohydrological model SWAP (Soil Water Atmosphere Plant). He is author or co-author of more than 60 peer-reviewed international scientific publications.

About the Author
Josh Juneau has been developing software and enterprise applications since the early days of Java EE. Application and database development have been his focus since the start of his career. He became an Oracle database administrator and adopted the PL/SQL language for performing administrative tasks and developing applications for the Oracle database. In an effort to build more complex solutions, he began to incorporate Java into his PL/SQL applications and later developed standalone and web applications with Java. Josh wrote his early Java web applications utilizing JDBC and servlets or JSP to work with backend databases. Later, he began to incorporate frameworks into his enterprise solutions, such as Java EE and JBoss Seam. Today, he primarily develops enterprise web solutions utilizing Java EE and other technologies. He also includes the use of alternative languages, such as Jython and Groovy, for some of his projects.

Over the years, Josh has dabbled in many different programming languages, including alternative languages for the JVM, in particular. In 2006, Josh began devoting time to the Jython Project as editor and publisher of the Jython Monthly newsletter. In late 2008, he began a podcast dedicated to the Jython programming language. Josh was the lead author for The Definitive Guide to Jython, Oracle PL/SQL Recipes, and Java 7 Recipes, and a solo author of Java EE 7 Recipes and Introducing Java EE 7, which were all published by Apress. He works as an application developer and system analyst at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and he also writes technical articles for Oracle and OTN.  He was a member of the JSR 372 and JSR 378 expert groups, and is an active member of the Java Community, helping to lead the Chicago Java User Group’s Adopt-a-JSR effort.

Making Great Music with the "Bare Necessities"

This book is not only educational for keyboard players, it is a great tool for all types of musicians!

I am a Tuba, Trombone, and hacker type piano player, and play Tuba and Trombone professionaly in Traditional Jazz Bands, as well as recrerationally in Community Bands, and a local University Symphony Orchestra. I use the book and it's charts to read Chord Spellings, create different types of Bass Lines for my Tuba, use the tables to show all the current and past symbols used for jazz chords, and as a quick resource for major and minor chord spellings. I use the book in conjunction with Ann Collins other book "How to Read a Fake Book" to learn how to create accompaniment for songs given in "Fake Book" style with the melody in treble clef, and the guitar chord symbols above the notes where the changes take place. This is how our Dixieland and Trad Jazz music is usually given to us, if there is music at all!

The book was less than 10 bucks, and if you follow it for fake book style piano playing, and dilligently do the exercises, you will be amazed how many songs you can learn in a short amout of time. It covers playing in all keys major and minor, all types of chords, and hand positioning for the chords.

Dr Parker does a great job of dispelling the myths surrounding alkaline water. This is a very easy read and will explain what alkaline water can do, is and isn't. The fact that anybody can own an appliance that can infuse molecular hydrogen into water isn't well understood in our culture. But, in time, this will become accepted and every kitchen will have one, just like microwaves, refers, dishwashers, and stoves.

The book itself is good for people who decided to learn how to program and they have no clue about I.T. at all. To me personally it was and overview of different programs and trying how to program. However, I use other really detailed books on how to build web apps and I chose to learn Python as my first linguage. I like though that the author provided with a lot of websites where to practice and other useful information, as well as which topics many programmers avoid to learn, and how important it is to know them. I kind of had a hard time and was extremely frustrated when followed an author's example of writing a code. But I took it as a part of a learning process and didn't change my mind to quit, still enjoy the difficulties of programming. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who became curious of programming and decides to find out if he should pursue it.

Effective and fast way to learn programming!

I have worked on the networking side of information technology (IT) for almost 30 years (Keith Barker Networking on Facebook). Over the years, I have dipped my toe into the world of programming a few times (often out of necessity, or due to working with a team of programmers to facilitate a network based application). I am a novice regarding the programming side of an application. I purchased Steven's book initially after looking at the preview, and after diving into it I love it! Very straight forward, and it feels like the book is focused on helping me learn programming, instead of the author trying to prove how smart he is (and by the way, Steven is brilliant).

This book, combined with many of the programming courses at CBTNuggets.com are a fantastic combination of learning tools.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in getting started in programming.

A fantastic book that's as enjoyable to read as it is informative

I'm a web designer who wanted to get smarter about how the universe of programming works. This book is a great place to begin your journey discovering all the processes, platforms, and terminology. There are just enough lightweight hands on exercises to give you understanding and the text is phenomenally well written. IMHO This book should be used in junior high school and high school curriculum but it's accessible enough for all ages.

Save the money and buy the paperback.

It took over 3 weeks to be delivered. When it got here I was disappointed with its cheapness. Looking at the buttons and pages, I doubt it'll last a month of my son's abuse. Plus the noises don't really make sense in the story - I'd save the money and just buy the paperback book and make the noises yourself.
