Bilingual Arabic-English book with resizable fonts, for adults (one of very few such books)

This is one of the very few electronic bilingual Arabic-English books for adults with resizable fonts, without which it is very difficult to read. (The other such book I know of is Part I of the same series.) Reading it is a good way of practicing and improving one's reading skills and vocabulary in modern Arabic without wasting a lot of time looking up words in a dictionary. I think it is at an intermediate level in Arabic. That is, it requires a knowledge of the Arabic verb forms and a basic, but not huge, vocabulary. I won't say that the plot is fascinating (though I am only part-way through the book), but for the reasons I stated I think it deserves five stars.

Sean Bissell is a dad to two boys, a husband, and a nutrition nut who lives in the Seattle area. At age 20 Sean began having debilitating headaches. Doctors discovered, after giving Sean a CAT Scan, that he had a significant plaque buildup in the arteries leading to his brain. But the doctors did not have any solutions to solve the problem. Sean obsessively researched the condition and found that the plaque was a result of specific substances in his diet. He took steps to reverse the damage. And after changing his diet, his headaches stopped. That success triggered a lifelong dedication to the study of health, to help himself, his boys, his wife, and anyone who is interested thrive.

This book makes so much sense from the hundreds of other diet books I have. Sean does an excellent job in detailing the diet that made humans thrive and grow a bigger brain. This is NOT another Paleo book. If you're interested in a way of eating that will optimize your metabolism, this is it.

Way different book on nutrition than what I have seen out there so far

This book presents an eye-opening narrative about nutrition within the framework of examining our origins as humans while meticulously providing footnotes and references. The listing of the RDA requirements for nutrients within the context of macronutrient balance provides a great practical starting point where most diet books leave you lost in terms of knowing what type of nutrient intake you’ll experience.

But the best part about this book is that the author has a balanced approach to health and life. His recommendations are sustainable for the long run and help you avoid the yo-yo food neurosis that people experience as they follow the fads. The author wisely recognizes that there is more to health than just your diet and gives insight to what overall can affect your health. He describes types of exercise that enhance metabolism that don't beat you down in an endless cycle of too much energy going out and not enough recovery to sustain the nutritional benefits to health.

To top it all off he offers amazing recipes that look delicious and are all within the First Diet parameters for health while listing the macronutrient content. Very well-written, detailed, and insightful book.

A refreshing perspective on health and nutrition

What I love about this book is that it's written in an easy to follow way while covering a wide assortment of important topics. In the world of health and nutrition, things can quickly wind up getting far too complex and difficult to grasp but Sean breaks these concepts down and streamlines them in a way that makes them enjoyable to read about and understand.

As another reviewer had already pointed out, this book does a great job at looking at health and nutrition from a balanced perspective. This is extremely important because this approach is sustainable long term and avoids that all too common restrictive and orthorexic mentality that you see today.

Besides a well researched and presented take on diet and nutrition, I was happy to see that this book offered some great looking recipes, workout ideas, and well organized RDA references. All in all, I feel like this is a well written book to keep close and use as reference to implementing a healthier way of life.

Easy to use, but be wary of MySQL

A nice way to learn SQL99. The book is heavily into using examples to motivate this learning. The discussion is at the level of abstract database design, instantiated by examples. But, it also gets into the syntax of SQL.
The narrative is easy to understand; requiring nothing in prior knowledge of SQL. The book is all about designing relational tables to handle your data needs.
As an aside: If you are tempted to use the popular and free MySQL, in applying what you have learnt hear, please be aware that since MySQL doesn't allow foreign keys, a lot of the table designs may have to be totally redone.

I read the 1st edition 20 years ago and it was a very thorough and rigorous text with excellent questions and exercises. The abstract theory is very clearly explained. Unfortunately, that edition did not cover Relational DB, so I can't comment on that treatment.

MySQL *does* support foreign keys. However, its SQL implementation does not support the *SQL FOREIGN KEY constraint* capability without some reconfiguration. This means that foreign key integrity generally has to be enforced outside of SQL. You can still use foreign keys.

As principal of Dylan Aviation located in south east Florida, Jim Alsip provides specialized flight instruction that has attracted pilots from across the United States, South America and almost every country in Europe. Lacking in Substance

Although Jim makes many great points about flying small aircraft in this book, it seemed to me that the point was made during his introduction and the following first few pages. After that, the same message was repeated over and over and over again in an 85 page pamphlet. The book would probably be about 40 pages long if the repeated phrases and rhetorical questions/statements were simply dropped.

All said, I was able to pick up on a few items of interest and apply them in a practical way. I suggest the author revise the edition with a little less gab and a lot more substance on the important differences between tail wheel and tricycle gear aircraft. Jim is clearly qualified and capable of writing a better book.

In all, I thought there were about 10 pages in his book that highlighted the true differences between the two different types of aircraft's handling characteristics. This was valuable stuff that I had hoped would fill the book.

I am very disappointed that the kindle price is close to 10 bucks with a value of about 99 cents.

I Like It a Lot

I liked the author's writing style, his ability to present the material in a very understandable way, and that he finishes each pertinent topic with a highlighted "Key Points" summary. Regarding Slipstream, P-Factor, Engine torque, and Gyroscopic effect, I liked the author's decision to spare the reader a detailed discussion of how these forces exist, and instead refer the reader to the FAA's "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge". My experience with taildragger flying occurred almost three years ago and was limited to the dual instruction necessary to get my taildragger endorsement. When I get my own taildragger in the not too distant future, I plan to refer to the "Key Points" in this book before each flight until I become proficient.

Fantastic book

Love this book. Clear reading and fantastic advice. The flying exercises I have tried and improved my flying. I wish I lived in the states and could have some lessons with Jim. A lot of the advice is good even if not flying tailwheels but if you are thinking of converting I highly recommend this book. Before reading this I never really understood why a tailwheel should be harder to control (on the ground) than a noeswheel but this spells it out so clearly. I actually bought this because it is one of the few books on this subject available on Kindle but would recommend it regardless.

The third fantasy outing (after Fire Angels) of the mage Dion Holyhands (aka Dion Demonslayer, Lady of Ruinac) takes her across the ocean to the land of Aramaya, the center of civilization and, she suspects, the current home of her missing niece, Syndal (aka Dally). Dion and her friend Kitten survive shipwreck to reach Akieva, the capital of a country with most of its features borrowed (if intelligently) from czarist Russia, and soon encounter the niece. But Dion's niece turns out to be in thrall to a powerful conspiracy of necromancers, and is in fact possessed by Dion's old nemesis, the demon Bedazzer. In rapid succession, Dion begins an affair with the demon-hunter Count Nikolai Terzu, rescues her niece, is reconciled with her ex-husband and has to chase down the necromancers to their stronghold in the southern marshes of Aramaya's latest conquest, Mazorra. Even Dion needs help on the last errand, and gets it from Aliceander the Crocodile Goddess, ruler of the marshes. Like its predecessors, the book combines romance, mystery and adventure in a fantasy setting, and in spite of the author's very fair degree of skill, this particular troika doesn't pull well in harness. Dion's obsession with her childlessness will surely grow tedious for some readers. Routley deserves credit for superior world-building and above average characterization, however; even if she isn't doing anything new here, she is at least covering familiar ground with more aplomb than are many of her colleagues. not quite as good as MAGE HEART and FIRE ANGLES

i was an avid fan of routley after reading the first two books about Dion Holyhands, but this book (which i waited for with baited breath)was a bit disappointing. Dion, for reasons that are never quite explained, decides to head off to Aramaya to search for her missing niece. instead of concentrating on the magical aspects of what was supposed to be the magical epicenter of Dions world, the book concentrates more on Dions wish to have children, her failed marriage, her current love affair, and her love for her niece whom she hated in the second book. once again, Routley manages to wrap up the entire novel in the last thirty or so pages. This book also ends with unanswered questions, baiting us for another installment for this magical soap opera. quite frankly, i was expecting more.

fantasy at its' very best

The powerful Mage Dion Holyhands the Dragonslayer believes her missing niece Dally lives in Akieva, the capital of Aramaya. Dion travels across the ocean in search of Dally, but her ship is wrecked. Dion and her companion Kitten manage to survive and make it to the capital city where they meet Dally.
To the mage's shock, her relative seems to be a slave to a cartel of necromancers. However, Dion learns that her worst enemy, Bedazzer the Demon, possesses her niece. Dion knows she must confront her worst nightmare, a fight to almost certainly the death with Bedazzer. If she is fortunate to come out of this alive and awake, she next must challenge the necromancer crowd. Only with victories against impossible odds will Dion be able to free her niece.
ARAMAYA, the third novel in Jane Routley's superb Dion series is an interesting tale that shows the author's ability to paint vivid descriptions of other worlds. The characters are fully developed, adding to an overall sense of exotic realism. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action as expected from an author who in a short time has become renowned for her romantic fantasies.

Interesting but not a page turner

Dion is searching for her niece Dally and gets the help of a prince. Later she has a lasting love affair with him but is still in love with Shad. She is confused and doesn't know what to do to get over Shad. Anger, love, and tenderness still exist for him as well as the desire to get back together with him. Meanwhile Bedazzer/Andre still exists and when Dion finds out about the powerful necromancers that are experimenting fate may play a hand in bringing them together for one last time ...
