Daniel Brown is Professor of Anthropology and Coordinator of Research and Graduate Education at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.� He has taught classes in all areas of physical anthropology, as well as in cultural anthropology and archaeology.� Dr. Brown’s research interest focuses on variation in how humans cope with psychosocial and physical stress, and the implications of that variation for health disparities.� He has received Chancellor Citations both for teaching and research at his university, and was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.� He is a former President of the Human Biology Association, an international organization whose mission “is to advance the understanding of human biological variation, to enhance the training of professional human biologists, and to foster a better comprehension of the scope of human biology among scientific professionals and the public.”

good for introductory class

This textbook was helpful for my intro to human variation class. It was straight forward and easy to understand. I recommend it for intro classes but not for anything more than that. It is very basic, which I believe to be the purpose, but for any classes or studies in which in-depth research or info is needed I do not recommend. Overall it was okay, helped me get an A in my class and understand complex concepts when it came to genes, alleles, and human variation.

Rabbit Production

This is the newest edition of a classic in raising rabbits commercially. This edition has color photographs that prove to be very useful. It contains practical useful and up-to-date information that simply cannot be found elsewhere. Not a how-to book for pet rabbit owners, but a serious manual for producing high quality healthy rabbits in an economical manner. I would not attempt to raise rabbits commercially without this "bible" on the bookshelf.

Very Helpful companion book

I just checked this book out from the local library and after skimming through it, marking what I want to go back and read in detail, I am convinced that this is a book that I can't be without! This book has TONS of detailed information, including several chapters on the genetics of rabbits. It is the first book that I have found that just doesn't gloss over rabbits as a whole, but actually gets down to the nitty gritty. There's a lot of detailed information about the diseases, how to have a successful rabbitry (if that is your goal), food guidelines, the importance of vitamins, etc. Do yourself a favor: get ahold of this book!

Great as a textbook and a must-have for researchers

This book's clear structure and comprehensive content makes it an ideal textbook for advanced college or graduate students. It is also a great reference book for researchers who are new to the acoustic echo and noise control area. The language of the book is precise and easy to understand. It contains more than 400 very illustrative diagrams, figures and tables.

Very Good Reference

This book is an excellent reference on echo control and noise suppression. The authors have pulled in a vast amount of information and written a cogent and readable tome. The book covers both echo suppression and echo cancellation--treating the common algorithms in detail (LMS, NLMS, Affine Projection, Fast Affine Projection, Kalman Filter). The true value of the book is that the authors don't skimp on the treatment of the control issues that are generally glossed over: rescue control, double talk detection, training control, normalization and regularization. The book is not without imperfections, but they are minor:

i. The book does read like it was co-authored. There are noticable differences in style between chapters and some redundancy that is likely due to how the authors divided the work.
ii The authors touch on various ITU and ETSI standards, but the treatment is cursory.
iii. The proof-readers failed in a place or too (e.g., the reference to "barer services" instead of "bearer services").

But all, in all, this is by far the most complete and accessible reference on acoustic echo and noise control.

This book breaks new ground on a controversial subject in industrial relations and human resource management -- nonunion forms of employee representation in the workplace. Practiced in many different ways, such as joint committees, employee forums, and plant councils, nonunion methods of employee representation are spreading rapidly as part of employee involvement and participation programs. But these employee groups remain highly controversial and heavily restricted by labor law in the United States because of their potential abuse in union avoidance. The American approach stands in sharp contrast to policies in other countries, such as Canada, Germany and Japan, where nonunion employee representation is largely unrestricted or even encouraged by law.

In this volume a distinguished, international set of authors provide an in-depth, balanced analysis and evaluation of this timely and much-debated topic. They give special emphasis to an historical assessment of nonunion employee representation, its practice and performance in modern workplaces, and cross-national differences in law and public policy. Recent proposals for reform of American legal treatment of nonunion employee representation are also carefully considered, and an evaluation and suggested plan of action are put forward.

Students and researchers alike will find it useful as a reference book and an excellent starting point for their own exploration. But "ordinary consumers" could gain as well from pursuing Miles's study. They would learn a lot about the springs that set them in motion while staying themselves in hiding. About the Author
Steve joined Brighton from the University of Liverpool where he was part of the management group of Impacts 08, the research programme designed to assess the social, cultural and economic impacts of European Capital of Culture. Perhaps the most bizarre experience of his academic career was presenting the proposal for Impacts 08 to a panel chaired by Loyd Grossman.

Steve previously worked at Northumbria University where he was Head of Research for the Centre for Cultural Policy and Management and where he conducted a large-scale research project into the impact of cultural investment on Newcastle Gateshead Quayside. Many years previously Steve undertook his PhD in the Behavioural Sciences Department at the University of Huddersfield in which he was concerned with the relationship between consumption and identity amongst young people.
